The kitchen is the heart of the home.. Well, we certainly were not feeling the love when we first stepped into the kitchen of our new home. The dated cabinets, backsplash and counters, paired with the tacky vinyl floor assured us that we had a lot of work ahead of us. Truthfully, the kitchen isn’t finished. We still have to tackle the backsplash and the countertops, which I will cover in a future post.
In the rest of the home, we covered the popcorn ceilings with pine tongue and groove planks. I wanted to do something different in the kitchen. There are few things that I love more than rusted tin, so that seemed like a perfect option. I actually had a pile of panels laying out back, but they weren’t all uniform enough. Some were corregated and some were flat, so I got with a friend who had had a tree fall on one of her barns. Matt and I went and pulled down what we needed and carried them over to the new house.
I knew that I wanted a great light to anchor the room and stumbled across this great drum light on target.com. In a kitchen with a rusted tin ceiling, what more could you ask for than burlap and chicken wire?!
Matt laid the flooring himself. Most people think it is tile and are shocked to learn that it is peel and stick vinyl. It was very cost efficient, crazy easy to install and is extremely durable!

What and how did you do the cabinets?

Hi Kathy! The cabinets received a coat of primer and then semi-gloss paint. They were sprayed on.
